Finally, after relocating to Charleston, SC.... I was able to make some sawdust today!!! I got an excellent start on this humidor, which is Jataboa (Brazilian Cherry)... this will be Brazilian Cherry throughout with minimal accents with Ebony (splines)..... Dimensions are 20" x 14" x 12" which should yield a 480 count humidor.... I'll keep ya'all posted as she goes.... thanks for all your support!

Looks awesome! Maybe if I get a chance to buy from you I can come personally pick it up and we can have a mini-herf? Granted Charleston is a little bit of a drive but well worth going there for The Pit! Which imo if you love BBQ you need to check that spot out!

Thank you for all the compliments. I had a good day in the shop today..... I sand her down and applied some stain on the baseboard.... my client wanted a little contrast, but with the same wood..... I will do the same on the lid.... I then measured out and cut the splines... I went with the big fat ones on this one.... as she's a big box and.... well, just happened to have some big fat chunks of ebony laying around.... Then.... I drilled the holes for the hinges....and cut off the "lid"... or at least cut off the piece that will be glued to the lid.... Won't be long and we can call her a humidor!

We have a cigar porn thread, I think we need to give Waxingmoon his own humi porn thread.

I think I'm going to try my hand at one of these when I move home. My grandfather has a woodworking shop and builds custom guncabinets, china cabinets, dressers, etc for friends and family as a hobby. He uses all Festool products (plunge cut saw with table, jointer, router, etc.). Supposedly pretty good equipment. Time to test them out for myself. I bet I could do this. Probably mess up the first few though!!!

does Brazilian cherry darken with age like the cherry of the US?

if so how dark will it get next to the ebony?

why cant we fast forward 40 years to see how it turns out?

You can set the wood near a sunny window to speed it up, ammonia works on woods high in tannins (Fuming). Brazilian cherry does darken over time, sunlight speeds the process up but at a cost of potentially splitting the wood. If you can age a cigar, you can age a humidor, lol...
